Saline County JP says Griffin “will respect” Arkansas’s conservative values
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced the endorsement of three-term Saline County District 4 Justice of the Peace Barbara Howell (R – Lake Norrell) in his bid for the Republican nomination to succeed outgoing U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder.
“Tim Griffin will respect the conservative values of Arkansas taxpayers and represent those values in Congress. Saline County voters have the opportunity to help build a new conservative majority in the House of Representatives. We can do our part by electing a conservative leader like Tim Griffin in 2010,” Howell said.
"I am very grateful to have Barbara’s endorsement,” Griffin said. “She is an important voice in Saline County and represents her district well. Like county government, Congress needs to work for us, not against us. I look forward to working with Barbara on ways we can eliminate the burdens placed upon people by government and encourage entrepreneurship, sustainable private sector job growth and economic recovery.”
Howell, a 15-year resident of Lake Norrell, was elected to the Saline County Quorum Court in 2004. She is a 10-year member – and former president – of the Lake Norrell Area Association. She also serves as fundraising chair of the Lake Norrell Volunteer Fire Department.

FIVE DAYS IN MAY

"Below you'll find our rankings of the 20 House races most likely to switch parties in the November election. As always, the number one ranked race is considered the most vulnerable to a party turnover.
...
6. Arkansas' 2nd district (D): Former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin (R) is running strong -- he was in the race prior to Rep. Vic Snyder's (D) retirement -- and Democrats are headed for a crowded primary fight. No matter who emerges, the demographics of this district are tough for the party; President Obama won 44 percent in the Little Rock-area seat in 2008. (Previous ranking: 9)"

TIM GRIFFIN: A COMMON SENSE CONSERVATIVE FOR ARKANSAS
An excerpt from the CivicForumPAC blog:
"Mr. Griffin’s common-sense approach to conservatism is a breath of fresh air. In applauding House Republicans’ recent ban on earmark spending on his website, Griffin said something that seems so simple but makes so much sense:
'As a conservative reformer, I believe we must do more–much more–to demonstrate respect for taxpayers and their hard earned money.'
Respect. When you think about it, isn’t that exactly what people are looking for right now? Isn’t that why incumbents are in such bad shape this election cycle?
...
Tim Griffin gets it.
And we’re with him all the way."

Says Congress 'must do more' to respect taxpayers
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today issued the following statement after the decision of House Republicans to adopt a unilateral moratorium on all earmarks:
"I applaud conservative House Republicans for unilaterally banning earmarks. Legitimate and worthy spending should be handled through the appropriations process, not earmarks. However, the earmark process is a symptom of a bigger problem in Washington. As a conservative reformer, I believe we must do more--much more--to demonstrate respect for taxpayers and their hard earned money. First, we must convince our Democrat colleagues to do the same. Second, we must make the earmark ban permanent. And third, we must stop the broader problem of runaway spending, which is adding to our nation's debt and threatening the futures of our children and grandchildren."

State Representative says Second District “ready for a conservative voice”
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced the endorsement of District 49 State Representative Jonathan Dismang (R-Beebe) in his bid for the Republican nomination to succeed outgoing U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder.
“It is going to take someone that is able to successfully communicate the issues to win in November,” Dismang said. “Tim has run a clean and credible race - all while effectively hammering home the positions that matter most to the people of the Second District. I do know that if he takes the same tenacity to Washington that he has exhibited during his campaign thus far, the liberal bureaucrats in our nation’s capital better be ready to have their hands full.
“The people of central Arkansas are ready for a conservative voice to represent them in Congress, and I can’t imagine a voice being more effective, louder, or clearer than Tim Griffin’s,” Dismang added.
"Rep. Dismang is a leader in the Arkansas House of Representatives who, as a member of the House Revenue & Taxation Committee, understands the importance of tax policy and how lower taxes are the fuel for the private sector to create jobs and grow our economy,” Griffin said.
“In his role as an accountant, Rep. Dismang has had the opportunity to assist hundreds of small businesses owners in White County,” Griffin continued. “I welcome his endorsement and look forward to working with him on ways to make it easier on small businesses in Arkansas, not harder.”
Dismang was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives in November 2008. He is the House Chairman of the Arkansas Legislative Council-PEER Committee which reviews the financial operations and fiscal performances of state agencies, departments, and institutions. He also sits on the House Revenue & Taxation Committee as well as the House State Agencies & Governmental Affairs Committee.
He is the Chief Financial Officer of Whitwell & Ryles Real Estate Investments, LLC. An honor graduate from Harding University with degrees in accounting and economics, Dismang is chairman of the Arkansas chapter of the National Association of Royalty Owners.
Dismang was also named as one of the Top Six Freshmen to Watch in the Arkansas General Assembly by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

State Representative says 2010 is an 'opportunity' for conservatives
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced the endorsement of District 42 State Representative Jane English (R-North Little Rock) in his bid for the Republican nomination to succeed outgoing U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder.
“The Second District is a conservative district and we are in need of a common sense conservative leader to represent us in Congress,” English said. “Tim Griffin is the conservative leader we need, and I wholeheartedly endorse him to be my next Congressman.
“This year, we have the opportunity to nominate a conservative candidate with the grassroots support, organization and financial backing needed to win the Second District,” English added. “We must not squander this opportunity to build a new conservative majority. I will work to help Tim win the nomination and, eventually, the election – and I urge my fellow conservatives to do the same.”
“Tim’s 13 years of military service is also an important reason why he has earned my support,” English said. “Congress needs more military veterans in its ranks and, with such a large population of active duty military, veterans and military families in the Second District, we need someone who has worn the nation’s uniform to represent it.”
“I am honored to have the support of Rep. English – a strong supporter of common sense conservative values,” Griffin said. “She stands for lower taxes and sustainable private sector job creation – the keys to growing our economy.
“The wife of a career soldier, Rep. English is also a strong supporter of our military and veterans communities,” Griffin added. “As a Reservist, I salute her volunteer work with the Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve (ESGR) program, as well as the Community Councils of Camp Robinson/Camp Pike and Little Rock Air Force Base.”
First elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives in November 2008, State Rep. Jane English has spent more than two decades working on economic development and workforce training, with a single goal in mind—creating better job opportunities for Arkansans.
English and her husband, Don, a career Infantry Soldier, have lived in north Pulaski County for 25 years. They attend the Little Rock Air Force Base Chapel and are deeply involved in volunteer efforts in support of the troops and their families. They have two grown children and five grandchildren, all of whom live in central Arkansas.
A member of the Arkansas Veterans Coalition and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, English also volunteers as employer outreach coordinator for ESGR, a program providing assistance to members of the National Guard and Reserves and their families.

Judge Lanny Fite says Griffin “right person” for Saline County, Second District
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced the endorsement of six-term Saline County Judge Lanny Fite in his bid to replace Rep. Vic Snyder in 2010.
“As a former small businessman, and now as county judge, I know the private sector is the true path toward creating sustainable jobs and growing our economy,” Fite said. “Tim Griffin will be a champion of the private sector and that is why I believe he is the right person to represent my family, Saline County and the Second District.”
“Tim is a fellow veteran, and I know he will carry the voice of Saline County and Second District veterans with him to Congress,” Fite added.
“Judge Fite has earned the bipartisan support of the Quorum Court and the respect of his constituents, which is why he is serving his sixth term in office,” Griffin said. “I am honored to have his support and his endorsement of our grassroots campaign to represent the common sense conservative values of the Second District.
“In 2010, the Second District has the opportunity to help build a new conservative majority, and the road toward that majority runs through Hot Springs Village, Benton, Bryant and all of Saline County. I am proud to have the support of a fellow conservative like Judge Fite who wants to elect a congressman that will work for us, not against us," Griffin added.
A 1968 Benton High School graduate, Fite served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. For 17 years, he was owner of Arkansas Asphalt. He sits on the board of the Central Arkansas Planning and Development District and Metroplan, of which he also is past board president. Major General William C. Page, Jr. (U.S. Army, Ret.) will chair the veterans group, which will communicate with, organize and mobilize fellow veterans and their families to build grassroots support for Tim Griffin as the Second Congressional District’s next congressman.
“The voice of veterans, sadly, has been on the decline in Washington for several years; with only 22% of our Congress having any military experience,” Page said. “With a large population of military veterans, as well as a large military presence, the Second District needs a congressman who understands military life, who has been deployed to a war zone and has the experience that only a person in uniform can have. I am proud to offer my support to the only veteran running to represent the Second District: Tim Griffin.
“While Tim’s military experience is an important factor for me, his common sense conservatism, belief in American exceptionalism and understanding that the private sector is the key to creating jobs are the reasons why I am endorsing him to be my congressman,” General Page said.
“I am honored to have Maj. Gen. Page’s support, and I am humbled to have him lead this critical grassroots coalition,” Griffin said. “It is important that veterans, as well as families of veterans, continue to have a prominent voice in Washington.
“Currently, there are one million backlogged claims at the Veterans Administration. As an American, Reservist and Iraq War veteran, I find this unacceptable. There is a sacred tradition in the military: leave no one behind. We must do all we can to fulfill the debt we owe to the men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform, as well as their families,” Griffin added.
An Army aviator, artillery and armor officer, Page was commissioned in 1960 upon graduation from the U.S. Army Field Artillery Officer Candidate School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Nebraska in 1971. He also attended the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.
Page flew in 21 different military aircraft during his Army career, totaling over 4,300 hours of military flight time with over 850 combat flying hours coming from two tours in Vietnam.
After command assignments in Vietnam, Korea and stateside, Page was promoted to the rank of Major General in 1989. His final active duty military assignment came in 1992 as Deputy Commanding General, III Corps in Fort Hood, Tex. - the world’s largest mechanized fighting force and military installation.
His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, four Legion of Merits, the Distinguished Flying Cross, three Bronze Stars, 11 Combat Air Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Korean Presidential Commendation Medal, and the Master Army Aviator Badge.
Since retiring from active military duty in 1993, Maj. Gen. Page has resided in Maumelle. He was a private governmental and financial consultant before retiring again in 2000. Page is the former Financial Chairman and Project Engineer for the Maumelle Veteran’s Memorial committee, having spearheaded the building of the Memorial in 2006. For his efforts, the Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce recognized Page as its 2006 Citizen of the Year.
Page currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Pulaski Technical College and is active in the Maumelle Conservative Coalition.

Dear Friend,
Yesterday was an exciting day for the campaign as I became the first Arkansan to file for office in 2010. As I told the press yesterday, “I wanted to get it done and get back to campaigning,” because I know that the road to a new conservative majority runs through Arkansas’s Second District, and we cannot waste the opportunity we have as conservatives in 2010.
I need your help. We are launching an eight-county, neighbor to neighbor blitz beginning on Friday to tell Arkansans about our campaign to represent the common sense conservative values that are lacking in Washington.
We need your help to distribute literature door to door. Please sign up and join our grassroots team today by visiting the Get Involved page of our website.
Since the start of our campaign, I have said that we will not cede any county, city or neighborhood in order to elect a Congressman that will work for us, not against us.
This will be the fourth-straight weekend our grassroots teams will have gone neighbor to neighbor in the Second District, and we are very excited about more and more grassroots volunteers joining our campaign every week.
Will you consider joining our grassroots team and help us go neighbor to neighbor this weekend? Or, if you are unable to do so this weekend, would you consider standing with our campaign in some other way?
Here are five ways you can join our team and help elect a new conservative majority in 2010:
Now that our campaign has filed for the ballot, we cannot afford to let up. While we don’t yet know who will we will face from the other side, we can rest assured they will vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker and support her agenda, which includes increased taxes, a healthcare plan which does not reduce costs and a misplaced reliance on government to create jobs instead of the private sector.
In order to do our part in building a new conservative majority, our campaign must continue to build on our grassroots momentum. Please consider joining our team today and help us take the gavel away from Speaker Pelosi.
Sincerely,
Tim Griffin
P.S. It is critical we continue to build grassroots momentum this weekend. Please click here to join our team today.

Says road to ‘new conservative majority’ runs through Second District
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today filed papers with the Arkansas Secretary of State’s office, officially entering the race to replace Rep. Vic Snyder in 2010 as a Republican.
“The road to a new conservative majority in Congress runs through Arkansas’s Second District,” Griffin said. “We need representation that reflects the common sense conservative views and values of Arkansas voters. We need a Congress that will work for us, not against us.
“Simply put, we cannot afford to elect someone who will be a guaranteed vote for Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her agenda, which includes increased taxes, a healthcare plan which does not reduce costs and a misplaced reliance on government to create jobs instead of the private sector,” Griffin added.
Several political news outlets have rated the Second District as leaning towards a Republican takeover in 2010, including Congressional Quarterly and The Cook Political Report.

Former U.S. Senate Candidate calls Griffin ‘the right choice’ for the Second District
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced the endorsement of former Republican U.S. Senate candidate and Arkansas T.E.A. Party founder Tom Cox in his bid to replace Rep. Vic Snyder in 2010.
“Tim Griffin is the right choice for the people of the Second District,” Cox said. “Like me, he is a business owner, and he understands that the private sector – not the government – is the key to sustainable job creation and economic growth.
“Tim and I agree that the government is making things harder for small business, not easier,” Cox continued. “Small business owners need tax relief – not the threat of tax increases – as they decide whether or not to expand and create new jobs. Tim knows this, and that is why I am endorsing him to become my congressman. And Tim is a veteran, something we need more of in Congress.”
“I am honored to have Tom Cox’ support and endorsement of our grassroots campaign to represent the common sense conservative values of the Second District,” Griffin said. “Tom saw a Washington which has lost its way. He saw his friends’ businesses decline and unemployment lines grow longer. He saw a Congress that no longer works for us, but against us.
“Because he could no longer stand on the sidelines, he founded the Arkansas T.E.A. Party and later chose to run for office. I thank him for his work to get more conservatives involved in the political process. I look forward to working with Tom and other conservatives who no longer wish to remain on the sidelines and who want to build our grassroots momentum towards victory in 2010.”
Cox is the CEO and owner of North Little Rock-based Waco Manufacturing, Inc. – makers of award-winning “Aloha” Pontoon Boats. He attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he majored in Business Management. He is the former president of the Harbor South Property Owners Association on Lake Ouachita and has served on the Boat Shows and Transportation Committee for the National Marine Manufacturers Association.

Former Congressman says Griffin ‘will work to reverse the headwind’ blowing against Arkansans
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced the endorsement of former Fourth Congressional District Representative Jay Dickey in his bid to replace Rep. Vic Snyder in 2010.
“Tim Griffin is the right person to represent Arkansas’s common sense conservative values,” Dickey said. “He will make an outstanding Congressman who will work to reverse the headwind blowing out of Washington and affecting us all.”
“I am honored to have the support and endorsement of Congressman Dickey,” Griffin said. “He is an Arkansas conservative and someone who realized the importance of staying in touch with his constituents. I am looking forward to working with Rep. Dickey as we continue to build grassroots momentum in the Second District.”
Rep. Dickey of Pine Bluff served in Congress from 1993 to 2001 and is the only Republican ever elected to serve the 4th District. He served on the House Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittees on Agriculture, National Security, Energy and Water, Transportation and Labor, Health and Human Services (HHS), and Education.
“Tim and I agree that the national debt is one of the greatest threats facing our country and that we must reign in federal spending to deal with it,” Dickey added. “We also agree that our nation needs to elect more veterans like Tim to Congress.
“Tim understands that the private sector – not government – is the only way to create the sustainable jobs which will lead to our economic recovery, and that is another reason why I wholeheartedly endorse him to represent the Second District in Congress,” Dickey added.
A 1961 graduate of the University of Arkansas, Dickey received his J.D. in 1963. He returned to Pine Bluff to practice law with his father, Jay W. Dickey, Sr., becoming the third generation lawyer of his family's firm. He then served as city attorney in Pine Bluff from 1968-1970. He was a lecturer at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 1979 and was a special justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court in 1988. He presently is retired from JD Consulting Co., a firm which represented clients’ interest in children’s health care, navigation and water, tax matters, homeland security, and roads.

Note: The Fix blog at WashingtonPost.com rated the Top 20 most vulnerable House races for the incumbent party to retain. On January 15, 2010, The Fix rated the race for the Second District as the 10th most vulnerable.
In the News:
By Chris Cillizza | February 12, 2010; 10:40 AM ET
...
Here's what we know right now: Democrats currently have less open seats but far more vulnerability; eight of the 20 seats on this month's Line are districts where a Democratic incumbent is retiring while just two are Republican open seats.
...
9. Arkansas' 2nd district (D): After years of skating by without a tough race, Rep. Vic Snyder (D) finally drew a real opponent in former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin (R) and promptly retired. Griffin starts with a financial edge over any Democrat and will benefit from the fact that Obama lost the district by ten points in 2008. (Previous ranking: 10)

Credits Arkansas grassroots support for helping achieve national recognition
LITTLE ROCK – Second District
Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today issued the following statement after reaching top-level ‘Young Gun’ status as part of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program:
"Every day, Arkansans are joining our grassroots, neighbor to neighbor campaign because they want to elect a Congressman who works for them, not against them. It is because of our supporters' personal commitment and financial generosity that our campaign has received this national recognition – and I thank them for it.
"In 2010, we have the opportunity to reverse the headwind blowing against us from Washington. That is why our campaign will continue to build our grassroots team in every county and every neighborhood of the Second District – so we can restore common sense Arkansas values to Congress."
About the NRCC Young Guns Program
Founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Congressmen Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Young Guns Program began as a Member driven organization of House Republicans dedicated to electing open seat and challenger candidates nationwide. Tim Griffin Advances to Top Level of Young Guns Program
Arkansas Republican Reaches ‘Young Gun’ Status with Clear Path to Victory
Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Republican Tim Griffin (AR-02) has reached ‘Young Gun’ status, the top level of its three-level Young Guns program. By advancing to the program’s top tier, Griffin has proven his ability to build a winning campaign and achieve substantial fundraising goals.
Founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Young Guns program is a member-driven organization dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide.
As a fifth generation Arkansan, Tim Griffin understands what Arkansans expect and deserve of their representatives in Congress. Griffin has served in the United States Army Reserve for 13 years, was deployed to Iraq and currently holds the rank of major. Tim Griffin served as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas and is a community leader in Little Rock. Tim Griffin’s dedication and extensive service to his country and to Arkansas make him an excellent candidate for Congress.
“Tim Griffin has proven that he is ready put this seat back in the Republican column,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Tim’s campaign is a symbol of the growing momentum behind conservative Republican candidacies both in Arkansas and across the country. As President Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi continue to push their big-government, big-spending policies onto the backs of hard-working families, Republicans like Tim Griffin will continue to present a clear alternative to a Democrat majority that continues to spend too much, borrow too much and tax too much at the expense of the American people.”
Now that Griffin has completed the benchmarks to place him on the road to victory, he is ready to provide a positive vision for Arkansas and defeat whichever Pelosi ally emerges from the Democrat primary.

HOUSE LEADERS SUPPORT TAX INCREASES, WORRY MORE ABOUT MESSAGING INSTEAD OF SMALL BUSINESSES
House Progressive Leader More Concerned With Message Than Keeping Tax Cuts. "'If we’re going to rescind these [tax cuts], which is still going to be a battle, we have to have our message out there on why we are doing it,' said Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) .... 'On taxes and some other things we’ve been on the defensive the whole time.'" (Jay Heflin, "House Democrats support letting tax cut expire, but see it as tough sell," The Hill, 2/8/10)
House No. 2 Says Obama Tax Increases Will Come To Fruition. "House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) on Wednesday said tax cuts ... would be allowed to expire at year’s end. The plan aligns with President Barack Obama’s pledge to raise taxes ..." (Jay Heflin, "House Democrats support letting tax cut expire, but see it as tough sell," The Hill, 2/8/10)
Tim Griffin released the following statement in response: "A tax increase on Americans will only add to the headwind already blowing out of Washington and affecting us all. Small businesses owners need tax relief as they decide whether or not to expand and create jobs. We need a Congress which will do no harm and work for us, not against us."

HOUSE DEMOCRATIC LEADER SAYS MORE GOVERNMENT SPENDING - NOT SAVING - IS IN 'BEST INTERESTS' OF COUNTRY!
House #3 Democrat: We Need To 'Spend Our Way' Out Of Recession. "'We've got to make some decisions here as to what's in the best interests of our country ... We're not going to save our way out of this recession ... We've got to spend our way out of this recession ...' Obama's budget, which was unveiled Monday morning, calls for $3.8 trillion in spending for 2010, but is projected to cause a $1.27 [trillion] deficit." (Michael O'Brien, "Clyburn: 'We've got to spend our way out of this recession'," The Hill, 2/1/10)
Tim Griffin released the following statement in response: "This is another example of how out of touch Washington leaders are with the people of the Second District and how they are creating an additional headwind for us in tough economic times. Our policy should not be more spending and deficits. Instead we should focus on policies which create sustainable jobs; give people the opportunity to save their hard earned wages; allow workers to produce goods; and give businesses the chance to invest and create even more opportunities for the future."

IN A TOUGH ECONOMY AND TIME OF WAR, THE PRESIDENT WANTS TO BRING TERRORISTS TO AMERICA AND SPEND $237 MILLION TO DO IT
President Obama Is Requesting Hundreds Of Millions To Prepare An Illinois Corrections Center To House Detainees That Should Be Kept Off American Soil. "The President is requesting approximately $237 million for the federal government to purchase, modify, and operate the Thomson Correctional Center in Illinois, where the administration is planning on transferring the detainees currently at Guantanamo Bay. This is part of the Justice Department budget." (Jake Tapper, "President Obama's $3.8 Trillion Budget," ABCNews.com, 2/15/10)
Tim Griffin released the following statement in response:
"Here's another example of Washington wasting your money. In tough economic times, we should be focused on cutting spending and allowing the private sector to create sustainable jobs. In a time of war, we should be focused on keeping America safe and not bringing terrorists inside our borders."

Cut Spending and Grow Private Sector to Address the Deficit, Debt
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s State of the Union address:
“I welcome the President’s call to freeze spending and focus on jobs in the coming year. But, after a year of stimulus spending and a misplaced reliance on the federal government to create jobs, both unemployment and the national debt have increased. As Congress gets into the details of the President’s new stimulus plan, it must cut spending while keeping in mind four simple words: ‘We can’t afford it.’
The national debt is the greatest threat we face as a country. To face down this threat, we must embrace pro-growth policies which make creating jobs easier, not harder, and allow the private sector to create the sustainable jobs that only it can.”

Former Second District Congressman calls Griffin
‘the right person’ to represent district
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced the endorsement of former 2nd Congressional District Representative Ed Bethune in his bid to replace Rep. Vic Snyder in 2010.
“Tim Griffin will make an outstanding Congressman,” Bethune said. “He is the right person to represent the common sense conservative values of the Second District; and, we need more veterans serving in Congress.”
“Tim and I agree that the private sector is the only way to create sustainable jobs, we need common sense market-based health care reform, and we need to reign in federal spending and pay off the national debt. I wholeheartedly endorse him to be our next Congressman,” Bethune added.
“I am honored to have the support and endorsement of the only person to win the Second District seat as a Republican since 1874,” Griffin said. “Congressman Bethune is well respected among conservatives in Arkansas. He is a former state party chairman, prosecutor, federal agent and a military veteran. I look forward to working with Rep. Bethune as our campaign continues to build momentum and grass roots support.”
Rep. Bethune, of Searcy and Little Rock, was first elected to Congress in 1978, representing the Second District until 1985. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, Congressman Bethune returned home and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1961. He then went on to earn his law degree from the University of Arkansas Law School in 1963.
Beginning in 1963, Bethune served as the deputy prosecuting attorney of Randolph County. From 1964 to 1968, he served as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He was prosecuting attorney for the First Judicial District of Arkansas from 1970 to 1971 and, during that time, chaired the committee that wrote the rules of criminal procedure that now serve the state of Arkansas.
While in Congress, Bethune was a member of the Budget, Financial Affairs, and Small Business committees. He was a key player in the passage of the Kemp-Roth bill, an income tax cut of 25% across the board for all Americans. In 1984 he was the Republican nominee for the United States Senate. He is a recipient of the Arkansas Wildlife Federation Conservation and Wilderness Award for his instrumental work in passage of the Arkansas Wilderness Act of 1983 (P.L. 98-508).

Dear Friend,
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Our grassroots campaign is growing and building momentum, day by day.
Because of you, our campaign is gaining national attention. Because of you, our campaign led Rep. Snyder by 17 points. Because of you, we will win in 2010 and send a representative to Congress who will start working for us, not against us.
Our campaign is focused on the issues important to Arkansans. The only way to create sustainable jobs for Arkansas is through the private sector. Our job-creation policy should make things easier, not harder.
We must put more money in your pockets. That means lower taxes and cutting spending. Congress must learn four simple words: “We can’t afford it!”
Are you fed up with Washington and its big spending ways? Are you ready to send someone to Washington who can fight for Arkansas, not Speaker Pelosi’s agenda? We need your help!
Today we are announcing a new volunteer effort called “Grassroots for Griffin” to help the campaign spread our positive vision for the Second District. We are looking for 100 volunteers in the next 100 hours.
Will you sign up to walk door-to-door on behalf of the campaign, or volunteer to make phone calls for us? Will you become one of the 100 in 100?
We have a great opportunity in 2010 and we must not let it pass. Please take this moment to stand with us and volunteer.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Tim Griffin
P.S. It is important to show that Arkansas wants a Congressman who will stop voting with Speaker Pelosi and work for us, not against us. Please consider volunteering today, then make sure to send this note on to others who want to join the team!

"... Republicans are going to win some Democratic-held seats in part because they’ve had more success attracting blue-chip candidates to run for office than in the pro-Democratic 2006 and 2008 election years.
...
Republicans also have a good shot at picking up retiring Rep. Vic Snyder ’s (D-Ark.) Little Rock-based seat, in large part because they landed a good candidate in Tim Griffin, a former U.S. attorney who was already giving Snyder a run for his money."

Promises to support health care reform legislation that actually lowers costs
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today became the first district candidate to sign the Club for Growth “Repeal It! Pledge,” vowing to repeal any federal takeover of health care enacted in 2010.
“There is no question that today’s health care system needs reform and the key to that reform is less bureaucracy and more choices for patients,” Griffin said. “Free-market solutions, interstate competition and tort reform will control costs, increase quality and decrease the debt.”
In signing the pledge, Griffin vowed to:
“I hereby pledge to the people of my district upon my election to the U.S. House of Representatives, to sponsor and support legislation to repeal any federal health care takeover passed in 2010, and replace it with real reforms that lower health care costs without growing government.”
Club for Growth President Chris Chocola said, “I thank Tim Griffin for making this pact today with the people of his district to fight for health care and economic freedom, even if Congress passes ObamaCare this year.”

Three veteran Arkansas political observers agreed Monday that Warren Stephens' support of Republican Tim Griffin in Arkansas' 2nd District congressional race was a big boost for Griffin, but that the Democratic nominee would not lack for financial backing.
Griffin announced Friday that Stephens, chairman and CEO of Stephens Inc. of Little Rock, would serve as his campaign's finance chairman.
...
"It's big," Skip Rutherford, dean of the Clinton School of Public Service, said of Stephens' involvement in Griffin's campaign. "It indicates that Tim Griffin's candidacy is very serious, and it indicates strong support from the business community."
Rex Nelson, long active in GOP politics and now a principal in The Communications Group of Little Rock, said, "I can't think of anybody on the Democratic side with equal financial clout in Arkansas."

“Today I join Arkansans in honoring the immense contribution Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. made to our country during a pivotal time in our history. Arkansas's Second District Moves to 'Leans Republican'
WITHIN HOURS OF SNYDER RETIREMENT, RATINGS WHICH
HAVE TRACKED TOWARD GRIFFIN TURN FROM BLUE TO RED
In A 'Special Update,' The Cook Political Report Moves Rating From 'Toss Up' To 'Lean Republican.' "Arkansas Democratic Rep. Vic Snyder’s retirement doesn’t so much create a strong GOP pickup opportunity as it reshapes one that already existed ... Tim Griffin is the current favorite for the GOP nod, Democrats will be hard pressed to compete here in 2010 if they can’t find a candidate with considerable personal appeal and fundraising ability." ("House Special Update: Snyder Retirement Moves AR-02 from Toss Up to Lean Republican," The Cook Political Report, 1/15/10)
At The Same Time, CQ Politics Bypasses 'Toss-Up,' Going Straight From 'Leans Democratic,' To 'Leans Republican.' "Snyder had been facing declining polling numbers and a well-funded challenger in attorney Tim Griffin. A poll commissioned by the liberal blog Firedoglake showed Snyder down 17 points to Griffin. And while Griffin is expected to report close to $300,000 in cash on hand in his upcoming Federal Election Commission report, Snyder had yet to raise any money for his re-election effort." (John McArdle, "Snyder’s Retirement Prompts Rating Change," CQ Politics, 1/15/10)

Dear Friend,
As many of you have heard, Rep. Snyder announced he will not seek re-election in 2010. His decision came just hours after the release of a poll showing our campaign leading him by a significant margin. While I do not agree with many of his votes, I respect his decision and thank him for his many years of service to our country, both in uniform and in Congress.
But we can’t afford to let up! While we don’t know who will jump in the race from the other side, we can rest assured they will vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker and support her agenda. So we must continue to build our grassroots, neighbor to neighbor campaign! We must take this opportunity to elect a representative who will work for us, not against us.
I need your help. Will you please do the following five things this weekend?
It is critical that we continue to build momentum! Please click here to donate to our campaign today.
Sincerely,
Tim Griffin

Griffin reports nearly $400,000 in fundraising, over $315,000 cash on hand
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced Little Rock businessman Warren Stephens as his campaign’s finance chairman.
“Warren Stephens is a respected businessman in Arkansas, and I am honored to have his support for my campaign,” Griffin said.
Stephens said, “I have supported Tim’s campaign since late last year and agreed to be his finance chair earlier this week. Tim is the right candidate for the Second District. He understands that the private-sector is the only source of sustainable job creation, and that is why I wholeheartedly endorse him to be our next Congressman.”
Griffin raised over $250,000 in the fourth quarter of 2009, and has raised almost $400,000 to date. He ended the year with over $315,000 cash-on-hand.

LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin leads Rep. Vic Snyder, 56%-39%, according to an FDL/SurveyUSA Poll released late Thursday.
The poll of likely voters was conducted January 11-13 and has a margin of error of 3.9%.
“This poll confirms what we already know: that Rep. Snyder is out of touch with the views and values of Arkansans,” Griffin said. “While this is a positive poll, we will continue to build our grassroots, neighbor to neighbor campaign.”
“Arkansans want a representative who stands for common sense conservative values, and they want a representative who works for us, not against us,” Griffin added.
According to the poll, Griffin leads Snyder among independents 71%-23% and receives at least half the vote among all age groups polled. The poll also shows that 76% of voters in the Second District believe the individual mandate requiring people to purchase health insurance or face a fine is unfair. If Snyder were to vote for a health care bill with the individual mandate, Griffin’s lead increases to 58%-35%.

FDL/SurveyUSA poll, 1/11-1/13, likely voters, Margin of Sampling Error: ± 3.9%
If there were an election for US House of Representatives today, and the only two candidates on the ballot were Democrat Vic Snyder and Republican Tim Griffin, who would you vote for?
Vic Snyder (D) 39%
Tim Griffin (R) 56%
Undecided 5%
In a new SurveryUSA poll sponsored by Firedoglake, incumbent Democrat Vic Snyder is trailing Republican challenger Tim Griffin by a wide margin in the race for Arkansas’s 2nd Congressional district. If the election were held today, Snyder would get 39% of the vote, Griffin would get 56%, with only 5% undecided. These numbers show strong movement in the Republican’s favor. A poll from November 16, by Public Policy Polling, had Snyder statistically even with Griffin, 44% to 43%.
The real danger for Snyder comes from self-identified independents. Snyder manages to win only 23% of independents, while Griffin currently takes 71% of this group.

Can the GOP and 'tea party' activists get along?
By Suzi Parker Correspondent / January 14, 2010
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2010/0114/Can-the-GOP-and-tea-party-activists-get-along

Little Rock, Ark. –
…
Though a regular voter over the years, [Dani] Martin never got involved in party politics until last fall, when she started attending healthcare town-hall meetings. By December, she was standing in front of 500 people at a tea party holiday bash in a Little Rock hotel, announcing the Facebook group.
The grass-roots buzz at that event was reminiscent of the early Obama-for-president movement. Pamphlets about how to run for office dotted a table in the room. Volunteers circulated with sign-in sheets to gather contact information. Donations were collected at the door.
Only a few of the local GOP establishment attended, but from out of town came Richard Armey, former GOP House majority leader, whose group, Freedomworks, leads the national tea party charge.
“I wish Blanche Lincoln could see this crowd,” Mr. Armey said, to cheers. “This is organized in Arkansas by citizens of Arkansas for the citizens of Arkansas.”
Most of the GOP candidates aspiring for Lincoln’s seat mingled at the event. So did Tim Griffin, a former US attorney and Bush White House official who is running for Congress against Rep. Vic Snyder (D).
Tea partyers share many of the same conservative issues – about job creation, the national debt, personal liberties – as Republicans, he says, and that can only help the GOP.
“The unity of that energy is where the power will lie in 2010,” Mr. Griffin says. “A lot of what you have seen with third-party groups – like the tea party – these folks are conservative and they are fed up with people in Washington who are not working for them, but against them.”

‘Sunshine Resolution’ should have Snyder’s support, Griffin says
LITTLE ROCK – For the second time in eight days, Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin called on Rep. Vic Snyder to support transparency in the negotiations over health care reform, this time urging him to sign a discharge petition to bring H.Res. 847, the so-called “Sunshine Resolution,” to the floor for a vote in the House of Representatives.
The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) and co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of House members, expresses the “sense of the House of Representatives that any conference committee or other meetings held to determine the final content of sweeping national health care legislation be held in full public view and not behind closed doors.”
“This resolution is a no-brainer which should have Rep. Snyder’s support,” Griffin said. “We are demanding transparency in the health care reform negotiations. The health care bill will affect each and every Arkansan, and I call on Rep. Snyder to sign this petition, bring the resolution to the floor and tell the Speaker we want cameras in the negotiating room.”
“We need Rep. Snyder to work for us, not against us,” Griffin added.
On January 6, Griffin called on Snyder to demand Speaker Pelosi allow C-SPAN cameras to broadcast the final negotiations of the health care bill.
A discharge petition is an attempt to bring a bill or resolution which has been referred to a committee for over 30 days to the floor for a vote. Any representative may file a discharge petition with the Clerk of the House. Once a majority of members (218) signs the petition, the House will then vote to discharge the legislation from the committee. If the vote to discharge is successful, then the House is to immediately consider the bill or resolution.
H.Res. 879 was introduced on October 20, 2009, and referred to the Rules Committee that day. The petition to discharge was filed January 13, 2010, by Rep. Buchanan.

Thanks Arkansans for record support, invites more to join the team
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced the launch of the updated version of www.TimGriffinForCongress.com, reflecting the growth of support and organization in the campaign to replace Rep. Vic Snyder.
“Our new website enhances our ability to organize the ever-growing number of grassroots supporters who have chosen to stand with our campaign to represent Arkansas’s common sense conservative values,” Griffin said. “The pages we have added and redesigned will make it easier for Second District supporters to join our team through volunteering, hosting events, contributing or simply putting a sign in their front yard.
“Our campaign has been fortunate to receive the record-setting financial support of many Arkansans who agree that Rep. Snyder is out of touch. I would like to thank them publicly and ask more of my fellow Arkansans to visit our new website, add their names to our volunteer, social media and donor rolls, and join us in sending a representative to Congress who will actually be working for us, not against us,” Griffin added.

Congressman ‘out of touch’ for hailing Obama-Pelosi bill
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today called on Rep. Vic Snyder to listen to the voice of his constituents by voting against the health care bill still being negotiated behind closed doors in Washington:
“The majority of Arkansans oppose this health care bill and as a constituent of the Second District, I would hope Rep. Snyder would listen to us,” Griffin said. “Despite what Rep. Snyder said on television Friday, a bill that results in a $200 million hit to the state’s general revenue is not ‘good for Arkansas.’ This clearly puts Rep. Snyder out of touch with Arkansans on an issue which will impact every one of our lives. We need a representative in Washington who is working for us, not against us.”
Rep. Snyder tells FOX... “I think this bill is very good for Arkansas.” (Griff Jenkins, “Hello, Arkansas,” FOX News, 1/8/10)

Tim Griffin Advances in Young Guns Program
Arkansas Republican Becomes One of Thirteen ‘Contenders’ Nationwide
Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Republican Tim Griffin (AR-02) has reached ‘Contender’ status as part of its Young Guns program. ‘Contender’ status is the second step in the three-level program, with Griffin now facing a new set of benchmarks to reach ‘Young Gun’ status in his bid to unseat incumbent Democrat Vic Snyder.
Founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Young Guns program is a member-driven organization dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. By achieving ‘Contender’ status, Griffin has already proven his ability to build a successful campaign structure and achieve vital fundraising goals.
As a fifth generation Arkansan, Tim Griffin understands what central Arkansans deserve from their representatives in Congress. Griffin has served in the United States Army Reserve for 13 years, was deployed to Iraq and currently holds the rank of major. Griffin served as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas and is a Little Rock community leader. Tim Griffin’s dedication and selfless service to his country and to his community make him an excellent candidate for Congress.
“Tim Griffin has already proven that he will be a formidable candidate by meeting the Young Guns program’s rigorous goals and is well on his way to building a winning campaign to put this seat back in the Republican column,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions. “Tim is part of a strong and growing candidate pool of everyday Americans who are frustrated with the majority’s big-government ways and aren’t willing to stand idly by any longer. His campaign has put Democrats on notice that Americans are ready to turn the page on the failed experiment known as the Obama-Pelosi agenda.”
While already having completed certain steps to place him on the road to victory, Griffin now faces a new set of rigorous benchmarks that will elevate him to the top level of the Young Guns program and help him build an effective, winning campaign.

Calls on Congressman to demand C-SPAN cameras inside health care negotiations
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today issued the following statement calling on Rep. Vic Snyder to demand that Speaker Nancy Pelosi allow C-SPAN cameras to broadcast the final negotiations of the health care bill:
“Arkansans are concerned about the health care legislation being considered in Congress and want to know what is going on in the secret negotiations behind closed doors. The people of Arkansas deserve and demand an open process to learn more about this bill which will ultimately affect each and every one of our lives. After all, it’s the taxpayers’ money and health care at stake.
Speaker Pelosi's refusal to make the legislative process transparent is a perfect example of how our representatives in Washington are not working for us, but against us.
I call on Rep. Snyder to stand for transparency and demand that Speaker Pelosi allow C-SPAN to broadcast the health care negotiations.”

Taps Arkansans to lead Second District challenge
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today named two Arkansans to head his campaign to unseat Congressman Vic Snyder, announcing Bryant Adams will serve as campaign manager and Ryan James as deputy campaign manager and communications director.
“I am pleased to announce two Arkansans to lead my grassroots campaign to represent Arkansas’s common sense conservative values. Both Bryant and Ryan are proud Arkansans who understand our wonderful state and its people,” said Griffin.
Adams was a field director in Arkansas and Colorado for the Bush-Cheney ’04 presidential campaign, and previously served at the Republican National Committee and Department of Homeland Security. A political science and history major at Ouachita Baptist University, Adams most recently served as the political affairs manager at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and as a consultant for corporate and political clients.
"I am honored to help elect Tim to represent the 2nd District. I believe the Natural State should be represented by someone like Tim who shares our Arkansas values," said Adams.
James was part of the regional press operation at McCain-Palin 2008 headquarters in Virginia after serving as deputy director of communications for the 2008 Republican National Convention. Prior to that, he served as communications director for Third District Rep. John Boozman.
After studying communications at Arkansas State University, James went on to serve in management and news production roles at local television stations in Arkansas and Texas.
“I am excited about the opportunity to work with Tim. The people of Central Arkansas need someone who will work for them in Congress, not against them. I believe Tim is the person to do just that because he shares our common sense conservative values,” said James.

CQ Politics calls Griffin ‘front-runner’ and ‘a more serious opponent’ for Snyder
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today issued the following statement after CQ Politics announced it has changed its rating of Rep. Vic Snyder’s seat in Congress to “Leans Democratic” from “Likely Democratic” – meaning the publication considers the 2010 race “competitive and an upset is a live possibility.”
“While I am encouraged by CQ’s decision, I am focused on our grassroots commonsense conservative campaign to represent Arkansas values in Washington. In 2010, Arkansans can elect someone who will work for them, not against them as Rep. Snyder has done on health care, the national debt and the cap and trade energy tax,” Griffin said.
CQ Changes Snyder Seat to ‘Leans Democratic’
“GOP strategists see hopes for a comeback in the 2010 midterm elections, though, and they are focusing strongly on Democratic incumbents in McCain districts such as … Vic Snyder in Arkansas’ 2nd … stepped-up GOP efforts to challenge them have prompted CQ Politics to change its ratings on the races — to Leans Democratic (from Likely Democratic) in Snyder’s race… .”
(John McArdle, “Tougher Races Prompt New Arkansas Ratings,” CQ Politics, 12/31/09)
Calls Griffin the ‘Front-Runner’ and a ‘More Serious Opponent’
“The front-runner for the Republican nomination to challenge Snyder in the 2nd District is former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin ... [Snyder] has drawn a more serious opponent than usual.”
(John McArdle, “Tougher Races Prompt New Arkansas Ratings,” CQ Politics, 12/31/09)

Note: This is the second time this year CQ has changed its ratings on Arkansas's Second Congressional District due to Griffin's efforts. The first time was on September 22, 2009, when the race was moved from "Safe Democratic" to "Democratic Favored." Now they have moved it to "Leans Democratic." Also, in September, the Cook Political Report changed its rating for the Second Congressional District from "Likely Democratic" to "Lean Democratic," and on November 19, they moved the race to "Toss Up."

. . .
GOP strategists see hopes for a comeback in the 2010 midterm elections, though, and they are focusing strongly on Democratic incumbents in McCain districts such as Marion Berry in Arkansas' 1st District and Vic Snyder in Arkansas' 2nd. While both of these veteran lawmakers maintain advantages in their races, the stepped-up GOP efforts to challenge them have prompted CQ Politics to change its ratings on the races - to Leans Democratic (from Likely Democratic) in Snyder's race and to Likely Democratic (from Safe Democratic) in Berry's district.
The front-runner for the Republican nomination to challenge Snyder in the 2nd District is former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), the campaign arm of House Republicans, has been touting Griffin as one of their top recruits for 2010.
. . .
Snyder had less than $8,000 in cash on hand as of that date. Though this is a continuation of a career-long pledge not to raise money until each election year has begun, he has drawn a more serious opponent than usual and will have to make up for lost time quickly.
Snyder's cash disadvantage - and the fact that polling by a Democratic firm in November pegged the race as a statistical dead heat - are a couple of big things for officials at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to worry about. Yet Democrats suggest that Griffin's ties to Bush and Rove will be more impressive to Republican loyalists than to the November general electorate.
About CQ's Ratings System
http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=news-000003176626
CQ invented the ratings system - which many other analysts and news organizations came to adopt and adapt to their own styles - in the early 1950s. Originally a product of the Congressional Quarterly Weekly Report, now CQ Weekly, the ratings evolved into seven categories:
Safe Democratic: The Democratic nominee is/will be a strong favorite, and an upset is virtually impossible.
Democrat Favored: The Democratic nominee has/will have a strong lead and appears likely to win, but an upset cannot be completely ruled out.
Leans Democratic: The Democratic nominee has/will have an edge, but the contest appears competitive and an upset is a live possibility.
Tossup (formerly No Clear Favorite): Neither party has established a definite lead in the contest.
Leans Republican: The Republican nominee has/will have an edge, but the contest appears competitive and an upset is a live possibility.
Republican Favored: The Republican nominee has/will have a strong lead and appears likely to win, but an upset cannot be completely ruled out.
Safe Republican: The Republican nominee is/will be a strong favorite, and an upset is virtually impossible.
One point that needs to be clearly understood is that the contests rated "Leans," as well as those rated "Tossup," are very competitive and could go either way. So it behooves those with partisan rooting interests to pay close attention and make no presumptions about the outcomes of those contests.

Little Rock Pharmacist Rob Christian will lead campaign’s second coalition
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced the chair of "Pharmacists for Griffin," the campaign’s second coalition.
Rob Christian, PharmD, will chair the group, which will communicate with, organize and mobilize the health care community to support Tim Griffin as the Second Congressional District’s next congressman.
“I am excited to support Tim Griffin. He understands that more government spending and control is not the answer to what ails our health care system. And he will listen to the people of Central Arkansas and represent their Arkansas values in Congress,” said Christian.
“I am honored to have Rob leading Pharmacists for Griffin. Thousands of health care professionals are deeply concerned about higher taxes, higher spending and increased government control over health care supported by Congressman Snyder. I appreciate Rob’s help reaching out to the health care community,” said Griffin.
Rob Christian, PharmD is a graduate of the College of Pharmacy at the UAMS. Upon graduation he accepted a position at Baptist Health Medical Center – North Little Rock, where he is currently the Pharmacy Supervisor. During his pharmacy career, he has been a strong advocate for pharmacists, serving on numerous committees and as a Board Member of the Arkansas Association of Health-System Pharmacists. Iraq Veterans for Congress announces “full support”
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today accepted the endorsement of the Iraq Veterans for Congress (IVC), a Political Action Committee supporting the congressional campaigns of conservative Republican Iraq veterans.
“Major Griffin has served our country as an Army Reservist and JAG officer for over 13 years and has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to our country, public service and protecting the rights of its citizens. His experience as an Army officer will help him in Congress as he represents the people of Central Arkansas. He is the clear choice for Arkansas’ Second District, and we are proud to give him our full support,” said Patrick Mahoney, IVC’s Director of Communications.
“I am honored and humbled to receive the endorsement of the Iraq Veterans for Congress, and look forward to representing in Congress the views and values of Arkansans, which includes many proud members of our military and veterans,” said Griffin.
Iraq Veterans for Congress PAC is a federally registered political action committee supporting conservative Republican Iraq Veterans. Founded in 2008, IVC helped elect two Iraq Veterans Congressmen Mike Coffman (R-CO) and Duncan Hunter Jr. (R-CA). From time to time, we will share excerpts of articles with you through emails titled "In Case You Missed It" (ICYMI). Please see the following excerpt from an Arkansas News Bureau article regarding the "Cap and Trade" energy tax legislation supported by Rep. Vic Snyder. A new study confirms what we have known for some time: Rep. Snyder's vote for the legislation was a vote for lost jobs. The article provides:
“A new study suggests Arkansas would lose tens of thousands of jobs under clean energy legislation before Congress…The Clean Energy and Security Act narrowly passed the House in June with only Rep. Vic Snyder, D-Little Rock, among the Arkansas delegation voting for the measure.”
A more complete excerpt of the article is included below.

Study: Clean energy measure would cost state jobs
LITTLE ROCK — A new study suggests Arkansas would lose tens of thousands of jobs under clean energy legislation before Congress.
The study, scheduled for release today by the Arkansas Policy Foundation and the American Council for Capital Formation, estimates the state would lose between 17,100 and 23,300 jobs by 2030 under the measure whose cap-and-trade provision would require the United States to reduce is carbon emissions by 3 percent by 2012 and 83 percent by 2050.
The study concludes that along with an overall drop in manufacturing output, Arkansas Gross State Product would drop $2.7 billion to $3.7 billion by 2030 while energy prices in the state would rise faster than in other states because Arkansas depends on coal and natural gas for 70 percent of electric generation.
...
The Clean Energy and Security Act narrowly passed the House in June with only Rep. Vic Snyder, D-Little Rock, among the Arkansas delegation voting for the measure. It faces an uncertain future in the Senate. U.S. Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, both D-Ark., have expressed reservations and say the Senate version will be markedly different.
The Senate’s “Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act” calls for sharper cuts in fossil fuel and currently includes a $100 billion federal investment in green infrastructure over the next two years.

Griffin disagrees, believes private sector, not government, is key to sustainable job creation
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today issued the following statement in response to Rep. Vic Snyder’s recent claim that President Obama’s stimulus plan is working, despite job losses in Arkansas and increased unemployment nationwide:
“Rep. Snyder is wrong. The Obama stimulus cost close to $800 billion with little to show for it. His vote for the stimulus, like his votes for the Obama-Pelosi health care bill and the cap and trade energy tax are evidence he does not represent the views and values of Central Arkansans. Sustainable job creation can only come from the private sector, and as congressman I will fight for much needed tax relief, especially for individuals and small businesses.”
SNYDER CLAIMS OBAMA’S $787 BILLION STIMULUS A SUCCESS
FEBRUARY: Rep. Vic Snyder (D-AR) Claimed Stimulus Would Create And Save “Millions Of Jobs.” “This bill invests in infrastructure, job stability, energy efficiency, healthcare innovation, and education, which are necessary to strengthen our nation’s economy. It creates and saves millions of jobs, provides immediate tax relief for American families, and lays the foundation for long-term economic growth.” (Rep. Vic Snyder, “Snyder Statement On American Recovery And Reinvestment Act Conference Report,” Press Release, 2/13/09)
NOVEMBER: Rep. Vic Snyder (D-AR) Still Claims “Stimulus Program Is Working.” SNYDER: “I think the stimulus program is working. At least I voted for it and I looked at every page of it before I voted for it. And it is working about like I thought it would, which is that money is spread out … I think the agreement, the consensus is that it is working. But it still is working as it goes along.” (Fox News’ “Your World With Neil Cavuto,” 11/25/09)
YET STIMULUS IS ANYTHING BUT A SUCCESS FOR ARKANSAS AND AMERICA
Since Stimulus Passed In February, Arkansas Has Lost Over 23,000 Jobs, Unemployment Has Increased By 18 Percent. (U.S. Bureau of Labor of Statistics,www.bls.gov, Accessed 11/30/09)
Since Stimulus Passed In February, American Has Lost 2.8 Million Jobs, Unemployment Rate Now At 10.2 Percent. (U.S. Bureau of Labor of Statistics,www.bls.gov, Accessed 11/30/09)
When Including Discouraged Workers, National Unemployment Rate At 17.5 Percent. “And the unemployment rate doesn’t include people without jobs who have stopped looking, or those who have settled for part-time jobs. Counting those people, the unemployment rate would be 17.5 percent, the highest since at least 1994.” (Jeannine Aversa and Christopher S. Rugaber, “What Recovery? Unemployment Shoots Past 10 Percent,” The Associated Press, 11/6/09)
WHILE STIMULUS MONEY GOES TO WASTEFUL PROJECTS, OBAMA’S CLAIMS OF JOBS CREATED OR SAVED “RIDDLED WITH ERRORS”
GAO Says White House Jobs Report “Riddled With Errors.” “The data collection and reporting from those who received money from the $787 billion U.S. stimulus plan is riddled with errors and inaccuracies, according to a federal audit of the report released on Thursday. … The Government Accountability Office had warned there would likely be mistakes in the mammoth undertaking. Its audit found that, despite training from federal agencies, many recipients were confused about how to count jobs.” (Lisa Lambert, “Errors And Inaccuracies In Stimulus Report: GAO,” Reuters, 11/19/09)
• In Arkansas, Stimulus Report Claims Single Lawn Mower Responsible For 50 Jobs. “In June, the federal government spent $1,047 in stimulus money to buy a rider mower from the Toro Company to cut the grass at the Fayetteville National Cemetery in Arkansas. Now, a report on the government’s stimulus Web site improbably claims that that single lawn mower sale helped save or create 50 jobs.” (Michael Cooper And Ron Nixon, “Reports Show Conflicting Number Of Jobs Attributed To Stimulus Money,” The New York Times, 11/4/09)
White House Report Shows Jobs Created By Stimulus In 400 Congressional Districts That Don’t Exist. “Until Wednesday night, the Web site, recovery.gov, listed more than 400 ‘phantom’ districts across the United States. In Texas alone, it shows $15 million spent and 98 jobs created or saved in districts that don’t exist.” (Tom Benning, "Errors On Government Web Site Make It Difficult To Track Stimulus Money," The Dallas Morning News, 11/19/09)
• Including Several Non-Existent Congressional Districts In Arkansas. “Pity residents of the 22nd Congressional District of Arkansas. The district received almost $6 million in funding from the economic stimulus package signed into law last February, and not a single job has been created there. The rush of federal funds also didn’t produce a single paycheck in the 28th District and the 8th District. The reason is simple. Those districts, along with the 76th, the 6th, 7th, 15th, 5th and one district curiously called the ‘00’ Congressional District, don’t exist.” (Alex Daniels, “Phantom Figures Dog Stimulus Stats,” Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 11/23/09)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Race now considered a “toss up”
LITTLE ROCK – Just days after U.S. Army reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin announced his bid to unseat Rep. Vic Snyder, a major political publication changed its rating of the race to reflect the strength of Griffin’s challenge to the seven-term incumbent. Yesterday, the same publication changed it again—this time to the “toss up” category.
In September, the Cook Political Report changed its rating for the Second Congressional District from “Likely Democratic” to “Lean Democratic,” writing that Griffin “isn't your typical law and order prosecutor-turned-candidate” and adding that the race “could easily turn into one of the most contentious banner races of the cycle.” Yesterday, they moved the race to “toss up.”
Cook wrote in September: “To say that this Little Rock-based seat is now the most Democratic in the state isn't saying much anymore. Indeed, President Obama's 44 percent here in 2008 was his best showing in Arkansas. In urban Little Rock's Pulaski County, which accounts for just over half of the district's total vote, Obama essentially matched Al Gore's 2000 showing with 56 percent of the vote. But the seven fast-growing outlying counties in the 2nd CD are rapidly becoming a killing field for national Democratic candidates. Al Gore took 42 percent in the district's hinterlands in 2000, but Obama took an anemic 32 percent eight years later.”
“[O]n paper, Snyder looks like a dream target for Republicans. A lawyer with a relatively liberal voting record (he was the only Arkansan to support Democrats' "cap and trade" energy legislation),” the report continued. It adds: “the new wrinkle for Snyder is that there is a Democrat in the White House who is radioactive in his district.”
“Yesterday’s news is more evidence that Arkansans are responding to our common sense conservative message of lower taxes, less spending, creating jobs through the private sector and market based, private sector reforms of health care--not more government," said Griffin. “But we understand this race will be a tough one, and we will continue to build a grassroots, neighbor to neighbor organization.” Griffin added.

"I am deeply disappointed that Rep. Snyder chose to follow Speaker Pelosi by voting for more government control and more bureaucracy in our health care system and more national debt, while rejecting a step-by-step common sense approach that would reduce health care costs across the board without bankrupting the taxpayers."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dr. Jim Mark Ingram will lead campaign’s first coalition
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced the chair of "Doctors for Griffin," the campaign’s first coalition.
Jim Mark Ingram, M.D., will chair the group, which will communicate with, organize and mobilize the health care community to support Tim Griffin as the Second Congressional District’s next congressman.
"Considering the many issues that are important to the families of Central Arkansas, especially healthcare, job creation and a fiscally responsible government, without exception Tim Griffin will best represent Central Arkansas on every issue," Ingram said. He continued, "Congressman Snyder voted for Speaker Pelosi’s health care legislation that will result in decreased quality of care, more debt, less jobs and more government intrusion between the doctors and their patients. In contrast, Tim understands that health care reform should not come at the expense of innovation and high quality patient care."
“I am honored to have Dr. Ingram on my team. He brings a wealth of experience and understands more government involvement in health care is bad for both doctors and their patients,” said Griffin.
Dr. Ingram is a graduate of UAMS College of Medicine and is now a clinical instructor in pediatrics at UAMS and Arkansas Children's Hospital. He is a partner/owner in the Little Rock Allergy and Asthma Clinic. His practice is focused on diagnosing and treating allergic diseases and asthma in children and adults. He is past president of the Pulaski County Medical Society and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Arkansas Medical Society. He is married to Allison Ingram and they have four children.

2nd District race ‘means trouble for Dems’
LITTLE ROCK – The race for Arkansas’ Second Congressional seat is again making national headlines as The Hotline from National Journal Online has named the potential race between U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin and Rep. Vic Snyder the #19 race on its list of House seats most likely to switch party control in 2010.
As reported by The Hotline’s Tim Sahd:
When you don't face a difficult race, it's considered admirable not to raise cash in an off-year. But when you find yourself in the opposing party's crosshairs, it suddenly makes you very vulnerable. That's the position Snyder's in. Former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin (R), who entered the race just 10 days before the end of Q3, raised $130K in that short period of time. If history is repeated for Snyder, he won't have raised more than 1 percent of that. Add Snyder's lack of fundraising and not-so-Blue Dog voting record to the very Republican lean of his district, and it means trouble for Dems. "

College Republicans name Griffin 'best candidate' for students
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced the endorsement of the Arkansas Federation of College Republicans in his campaign to unseat Rep. Vic Snyder.
"Tim Griffin understands the concerns of college students and young professionals. He knows our concerns over health care, the poor job market, increasing tax burdens, and most importantly he understands what it is like to actually fight for freedom," said Arkansas College Republican Chairman Tom Norsworthy. "It was a unanimous decision. We all agreed Griffin was the best candidate to represent the Republican Party, and the interests of college students in Arkansas, regardless of party."
"I am honored to earn the endorsement of the future leaders of our party, state and nation," Griffin said. "College students across the state are concerned with their futures – whether there will be a job available to them when they graduate, or if they will be able to grow a family in a prosperous country that is safe and secure. The voice of college students will be an important one in this election, and I am proud to have their support.”

Griffin candidacy places Snyder seat in ‘Lean Democratic’ territory
LITTLE ROCK - Just days after U.S. Army reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin announced his bid to unseat Rep. Vic Snyder, another major political publication has changed its rating of the race to reflect the strength of Griffin's challenge to the seven-term incumbent.
The Cook Political Report changed its rating for the Second Congressional District from “Likely Democratic” to “Lean Democratic,” writing that Griffin “isn't your typical law and order prosecutor-turned-candidate” and adding that the race “could easily turn into one of the most contentious banner races of the cycle.”
Cook writes: “To say that this Little Rock-based seat is now the most Democratic in the state isn't saying much anymore.
A lawyer with a relatively liberal voting record (he was the only Arkansan to support Democrats' "cap and trade" energy legislation),” the report continues. It adds: “the new wrinkle for Snyder is that there is a Democrat in the White House who is radioactive in his district.”
“While I am pleased with the increased attention this race is receiving nationally, this campaign against Rep. Snyder will be an uphill battle against an entrenched incumbent,” Griffin said.

Little Rock entrepreneur and award-winning businesswoman stands with challenger to Snyder
LITTLE ROCK – Second District Republican Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced Little Rock businesswoman Margaret McEntire will chair his campaign to challenge Rep. Vic Snyder. McEntire is the founder and CEO of Little Rock-based Candy Bouquet International, Inc.
“I am very honored Margaret has joined my campaign,” Griffin said. “Margaret began a business in her home and built a company which now reaches all 50 states and 38 countries. She knows how to create jobs and how votes in Washington impact small businesses here in Central Arkansas.”
McEntire has been recognized for her leadership and entrepreneurship for nearly 15 years. She was named the 2004 Executive of the Year by Arkansas Business and the 1998 Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Association. In 1999, McEntire was awarded the Congressional Medal of Merit and, in 2004, the Ronald Reagan Award as outstanding member of President Bush’s Business Advisory Council.
“I have known and respected Tim Griffin for over 20 years and am proud to be a part of his campaign for Congress. He shares the values of hard work and integrity that we hold dear in Central Arkansas. And that’s why I am asking the people of the Second District to help me send Tim Griffin to the United States Congress,” McEntire said.

CQ Politics notes the new rating “means the contest has become more competitive, with a plausible possibility of an upset”.
“The people of Central Arkansas deserve a congressman who shares their values and represents their views. Rep. Snyder does not reflect those values and voters now have a clear alternative in my candidacy,” Griffin said. The full report can be read here.
